An ode to Vietnamese bridges. They are plentiful. Like humans, some are small, some large, some skinny, old, and rickety, full of character. Some built with massive concrete pilings, others held with wire or bamboo pontoons. Thankful for all the people of Vietnam that maintain these many bridges and make biking through all of these rivers possible. We made it to Vietnam! Yeehaw. We’ve already changed plans twice - but loving it. Closer to the beginning of this trip we met a group of amazing older Alaskans in Croatia and they were really taking it day by day, didn’t have any committing plans. At the time, I was astounded by them. Now it makes complete sense. All of your plans will probably poof into thin air anyhow. To quote a funny song about sunscreen, “Don’t worry about the future Greece! Our last country in Europe. Many plans changed, many hills were climbed, many pastries were eaten. We cycled the island of Corfu, in the very northwest corner of the country, and then bused down to Athens. Now Podgorica (the capital) and Skader lake. Blog up on Montenegro soon! We saw so much of Montenegro. Despite being the smallest country in the Balkans that we went through, we spent more time here than any other country (mainly for vaccination reasons). We started in the mountains, which were breathtaking—literally. Evie’s asthma acted up, Meg hyperventilated, and in this mental battle of shepherd dogs and us, the final tally was 1-0. We escaped to the coast on a train for a week loop around Skadar lake which was delightful. Bosnia and Herzegovina! We loved you. The weather was trash basically the entire time but you still managed to steal our hearts. The mountains were gorgeous and the people kind. More on the blog if you’re interested!
